KerNow, style and genre

The title for my new magazine concept is KerNow, I believe the title appropriately represents the content that will be included within the magazine and is largely self explanatory, it will therefore be easy to understand to my readership. I initially wanted the masthead of my publication to be in the Cornish language as the magazine will fit into the genre of Regional (Tourism) magazines. The title itslef is 'Cornwall' in Cornish as many will understand, however the added upper case 'N' signals the change of pronunciation from 'no' to 'now', my intention being the creation of an original title that is familiar. The 'Now' gives the Cornish word a modern twist that I hope will appeal to as wider audience as possible as I wish to capture all age groups, ethnicities and sex's, and represent their interests in my magazine.

Included inside the magazine will be features and guides chronicling major attractions and popular heritage sites from all over the Cornish countryside while providing information and articles about each of these all in one handy publication. In my upcoming survey I wish to ask questions regarding content to the people who have lived in Cornwall since birth as I think they will hold the clearest ideas on where visitors to the county will be interested in the most, in this magazine local's knowledge will be imparted to the consumer to give a more personalised impression on the reader, and it is my hope that they will be heavily influenced by the guidance they will receive by reading my magazine.

I have chosen to appeal to three main consumer groups: Under 50's, Over 50's and families.

To appeal to the younger side of my readership, I will market the latest attractions such as the Eden project, Bodmin Jail, Creally Adventure park and other such areas of interest that is likely to be suited towards the younger expanding generation. In order to attract the opposite end of the target audience (Over 50's) I shall include information and article on important historical sites of Cornish heritage, while promoting the idea of exploration and discovery. Families will be able to enjoy a mixture of both heritage and modern tourist attractions, this combination resulting in a fun, relaxed and cultured holiday that all the family can enjoy, and that is one of the main features I wish to convey in the magazine.

  1. This starts well James bout needs further detailed development. Think about families as a target as well as locals. Use the theoretical concepts described in the 'How to progress...' blog.
