My photoshoot (College magazine)

For my photo shoot I used four student models. I took the pictures at the front of Bodmin College in order to capture an accurate representation of student life. The picture shown immediately below is featured as the main image on my college magazine cover.

Target audience research

Judging by the results of my first question, 80% of my sample group (and therefore target audience) are female, whereas the remaining 20% are male. This may indicate that females are more likely to read/ take notice of a college magazine.

All of the participants were in the 16-19 age category, this is good as my primary target audience is students of that age group. This age group is therefore more likely to have some knowledge regarding college magazines.

 

These results show that no one, regardless of age or gender, reads the Bodmin College Magazine. This provides me with the opportunity to find out what will make these people read the College magazine.

The results of this question show that 40% of the sample asked did think the cover of the Bodmin College Magazine is appealing, however 60% did not. This means that my cover design must be in some way different to that of the originals. 

It was important to me to know what people like about the present Bodmin College Magazine covers in order to decide what to include on mine. Everyone who was asked answered that they like seeing people they recognize on the cover, 20% liked the colour scheme, and 60% were satisfied with the picture/ colour arrangement. These answers show that I must include images featuring well-known students and arrange these images in a way that works with the colour palette.

Judging by the results of this part of the survey, it is most important/ appealing to include pictures as well as information, although the results also indicate that it is important to include both information on school events and interesting facts.

 

It is apparent from these results that no one would purchase the current college magazine if it were not free of charge. I must take into account the results I have collected and incorporate the outcomes into my own College Magazine.

Prelim Task

In order to prepare me for the main task, I was required to complete the Preliminary Task. For this assignment I created a college magazine using pictures of students and the college itself, I then edited the images in photoshop to make a front cover and contents page. This task allowed me to expand my skills in pre-production, critical reflection, Photoshop and Photography.

My AS coursework

For my AS Portfolio, I have decided to complete a print brief due to my interest in the music industry. I plan to delve deeper into the music industry by exploring the medium of music magazines. I feel this brief will also give me the opportunity to improve my skills in Photography, Photoshop and InDesign. I think this is important because I intend to pursue a career in media.
